Since the release of the Nollywood mini series Shanty Town on Netflix, there has been a continous noise around the show. While some are going gaga about some particular characters, others are going gaga about the entire production.
The production team has also made so much noise about the movie that it is hard not to have heard of the show, even if you have not succumbed to pressure.
However, the moment pressure gets the best of you and you allow yourself to binge on the show, you are left with your opinion of the movie.
For those who have seen Shanty Town, how did you feel? Was it worth the entire hype? Did it meet all your expectations or did it fall short?
We couldn’t help but notice some of the concerns expressed by the early watchers of the show, some expressed a bit of disappointment and dissatisfaction at some of the fight scenes, while many expressed shock at the level of nudity in the movie.
But most importantly, the biggest and loudest noise has been about the character of Chidi Mokeme, Scar.
Shanty Town is Art that was well expressed, for a Nollywood movie, it definitely deserves its flowers, yes some of the fight scenes looked like playbacks, quite slow and sometimes unnecessarily long, but of course what is a “hood” movie without some kicks and blows?
Nudity sells many movies, there is no doubt about this, many Nollywood movies stay on top of the chart for weeks unending because of the amount of skin it promises, it is not shocking to know that many Nollywood produces now jump on the trend, if it sells the movie, then yes! Do not be shocked that most of the moral polices angry about the nude scenes are mostly caught playing back, don’t worry, we understand, everyone loves some skin but still, we are Africans, we love our mysteries!
Scar! No doubt the star of the show, and if every other thing in Shanty Town was “not giving”, Scar was definitely giving all he was supposed to give!
If every other thing about Shanty Town was hyped, Scar was definitely not overhyped.
Will you regret watching Shanty Town? Definitely not, but let your expectations be average so you can thoroughly enjoyed yourself.
