Africans are of the strong belief that “white wedding” or “church wedding” as it is called is a borrowed tradition. A tradition that has nothing to do with them as Africans.

Although this borrowed tradition has been in use for centuries with couples pledging forever to each other in flowing white dresses and well pressed tuxes, it seems that some would really love to break free of this tradition and if they can’t be completely free, they will at least do it their own way.

We witnessed a fine Church wedding last weekend where the couple threw “normal” to the wind and embraced their own normal by using the traditional “Isi Agu” fabric to make their wedding outfits borrowing a leaf from a 2019 couple.

From the look of things more Nigerian couples are trying to do away with the western wedding way, or at least trying to do it in their own way!

Take a look at the couple during their church wedding. What do you think?
