A few years back, the “Japa” syndrome hit the Nigerian economy and people in their numbers did all they could to migrate to other countries, a teem loosely called “Japa”.

While men and women packed their bags and sought refuge abroad, one would think that the celebrities, who relatively had things going on for them here would not be affected, surprisingly, a good numbers of Nigerian celebrities have also pitched their tents in the US, UK or Canada as the case may be.

While some left long ago before the syndrome hit, some went with the syndrome.

Here are some celebs whose relocation came as a surprise.

1. Omotola Jalade Ekehinde.

With a very successful career, a successful husband and grown children, one would think that the actress had her roots solid in motherland. Surprisingly however, despite all of these, Nolluwood star Omotola Jalade and her family relocated abroad to continue life.

2. Simi and Adekunle Gold

It is rare for music stars to relocate out of the country considering that their career is here, the stages are here. For Simi and hubby however, it would seem that they made a big decision and a big sacrifice to live abroad since the birth of their first child Deja.

3. Tekno

Telno is another music star who has decided to pitch his tent abroad despite his many successes in Nigeria. Although Tekno frequently visits home, but he is more in the US than in his country Nigeria.

4. Princess Comedian

We can say that circumstances pushed Princess out of her country. The comedian after a messy court battle with actor Baba Ijesha that ended well for her but bad for the defendant, the threats against her life and the hatred directed towards her by friends and fans of the embattled actor made her seek refuge abroad.

5. Bukky Wright

She is one of the celebs who left before the mass relocation. Bukky weight left over a decade ago and silently made a name for herself even outside of filmmaking. The talented actress is said to have made herself an expect in the Tech industry.  Although she is planning a return to the industry judging by her latest moves.

6. Helen Paul

In the development of self and career, Helen Paul’s roots have been uprooted and replanted abroad. The comedian and actor is now a Professor of arts in an American University making her a residence of the country.
