Making Cinema movies in Nigeria is tricky, especially when the audience has a high expectation.
When Filmmaker Femi Adebayo announced with teasers that he had an epic movie King of Thieves coming to the Cinemas soon, the expectation was not high, judging by the past experiences of Cinema goers when it comes to Yoruba Movies.
The expectation became a notch higher after the premiere which became the talk of the Town.
There where whispers that the movie had better be good since the premiere in it self was a movie.
Surprisingly, King of Thieves surpassed the expectation of many movie lovers.
Most of the actors in the movie are popular actors with track records of excellent performances, however, there was a difference in the delivery which makes us believe that the Directors of this movie wanted only the best and got it.
The movie which was released to the Cinemas on April 8 has half “Sold Out” sales in major cinemas, back to back for four consecutive weeks!
The record is jaw dropping, especially for the producer who has never experienced this great a feat.
It is easy to see that collaboration in itself is a good thing as we can not help but take note of the effort of the co producer, Niyi Akinmolayan of Anthill studios whose input equally helped the good production.
Safe to say 300Million Naira is just a few days away as King of Thieves Movie, Agẹsinkólé has made 224 Million in Four Weeks.
Now, let’s put aside the financial victory, which is important definitely, and let’s look at the acceptance Nationwide, it is surprising to see that there have been no bad reviews for the movie, this is the big victory.
It is however pertinent to note that the bar is now so high for Yoruba movie makers and more importantly, for Femi Adebayo, the producer of King of Thieves!
